ERA-Shuttle is pleased to announce that our project research managers and administrators have proudly contributed to the 2025 edition of the Research Administration as a Profession (RAAAP) global survey – now in its fourth edition. RAAAP-4, launched in October 2025, marks a significant step in the longitudinal study of the research management profession and focuses this year on the theme of “Professional Identity”.

This global survey explores the lived experience of research managers and administrators (RMAs), asking detailed questions about their professional roles, career pathways into research support, perceptions of research impact and engagement, and a range of demographic indicators including education, geography, age, and gender. Participants also receive personalised radar charts as feedback, comparing their values and principles with global RMA benchmarks.

ERA-Shuttle’s participation in RAAAP-4 directly supports the goals of WP2 of the project (resource mapping and institutional development), WP4 (training and capacity-building), and WP5 (cross-sectoral collaboration). These work packages align closely with the survey’s purpose: to better understand and shape the evolving professional landscape of R&I support.

By promoting and responding to the survey, ERA-Shuttle partners contribute to a stronger, evidence-informed understanding of the profession – across Europe and globally – helping identify skills gaps, training needs, and systemic challenges in research administration. Insights gained will inform strategic planning in R&I support structures, training curricula, recruitment practices, and career development frameworks.

ERA-Shuttle partners have also shared the RAAAP-4 invitation widely within their institutions and networks. To learn more or participate in the survey, visit the RAAAP website.
