Empowered RMAs, Sustainable Futures: Connecting Personal, Professional and Planetary Wellbeing for RMAs

On June 23, 2026, Angie Mifsud and Ela Kurtcu delivered a webinar about wellbeing within the framework of the SWEPPP Project. This focused on the project’s key outcomes, including Angie’s secondment, which led to the development of an accredited course on wellbeing and a digital wellbeing resource designed to support learning and professional development.

About the speakers:

Angie Mifsud is a Senior Manager at the University of Malta’s Research Support Services Directorate and an Energy Psychology and Somatic Alignment practitioner. With extensive experience in EU research funding and project management, she bridges professional expertise with a deep commitment to personal and emotional well-being. Angie develops and facilitates workshops on emotional regulation, resilience, and alignment, helping individuals release limiting beliefs and strengthen authentic engagement. Through her secondment to Steinbeis SIT in Berlin, she co-led the Wellbeing4Sustainability programme, equipping researchers and managers with practical tools to thrive professionally while promoting sustainable, inclusive, and human-centred research cultures.

Ela Kurtcu is the Director of the Steinbeis School of Sustainable Innovation and Transformation, based in Berlin, Germany. She has nearly 15 years of experience in sustainability education and management and has led a wide range of educational projects addressing different aspects of sustainability, from circular economy to corporate sustainability reporting. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with diverse organizations and stakeholders, including SMEs, universities, and students.

Her current work focuses on well-being as a driver for social and behavioral change in support of sustainable transformation. Over the past two years, she has been developing projects and educational materials on sustainable well-being in university contexts and has facilitated workshops on personal, professional, and planetary well-being.

What you’ll learn:

Developed through Angie’s secondment within the ERA Shuttle project, the session explored a holistic approach to well-being. This approach incorporated not only principles from Positive Psychology but also elements of Lifestyle Medicine, emotional regulation through Emotional Freedom Techniques, and breathwork, offering practical tools to support personal and professional wellbeing.

A significant achievement of this work is that the digital resource has been recognised as a Key Exploitable Result within the WiderAdvance Facility, underlining its potential for long-term impact and wider uptake beyond the project’s lifetime. View the webinar below to learn more.
